In short: LoopCast needs no account, shows no ads and doesn’t track you. Your workout data from Apple Health, your clips, your music and your finished videos stay on your iPhone – we never see them. What does leave the device is listed below, point by point.

2. This website

Hosting. The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary access data such as IP address, time, page requested and browser, in order to deliver the page and fend off attacks. We do not analyse this data. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, reachable website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

No cookies, no analytics. The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no fonts or scripts from third-party servers.

3. The app

Apple Health. With your permission the app reads workouts and their routes from Apple Health. This health data is processed only on your iPhone to create the video and is never transferred to us or to third parties. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the Health app.

Photos, clips, music and GPX files. Whatever you select, the app processes on the device only. For clips it reads the recording time to place them at the right point of the route. The finished video ends up in your photo library only if you save it.

Maps. To draw the map, the app downloads map images from the internet – depending on the style, from OpenFreeMap (Dark, Light) or, for Satellite and Topo, from the official agencies of the country you ran in: in Germany basemap.de of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy and the state geodata services, in Austria basemap.at, in Switzerland the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. For Satellite and Topo, the app first asks our own map cache at Cloudflare (tiles.getloopcast.com). Whatever is not there yet, the cache fetches from the agency itself – the agency then sees Cloudflare, not you – and keeps the map image for everyone asking for the same area. The cache stores no IP addresses and only counts how many map images of which zoom level are requested. The app asks the agencies directly only when the cache cannot be reached, and for one small overview image at the start, with which it checks which agency has imagery of your area. The servers asked learn your IP address and which part of the map is requested, i.e. roughly the area of your run – but not your route, your times or other workout data. The providers are responsible for their own processing. The legal basis for the request is our legitimate interest in showing the map you asked for (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). With “No map”, no map images are loaded.

Usage statistics. The app counts how often it is installed and opened and how many videos are started, finished, cancelled or failed. To do so it sends short events to our server at Cloudflare (database in Western Europe): the event, the date, a random identifier created anew every day, the week of installation, rough ranges of how many days the app was used and how many videos were made, the version number and whether the app came from TestFlight or the App Store; for started, cancelled and failed videos also the iPhone model (e.g. “iPhone12,1”) and the chosen resolution. No device or advertising identifiers, no locations, no content and no IP addresses are stored; we cannot trace anything back to you as a person. The counters for install week, days of use and videos stay in the app. Insofar as this data relates to a person at all, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Purchases. Apple handles purchases and subscriptions through your Apple Account. We receive no payment data. Apple’s privacy policy applies.

TestFlight. If you test the app via TestFlight, Apple provides us with your invitation data (name and email address), installation data, and crash reports and feedback you send through TestFlight. We use them only to run the test and fix bugs.

4. Contact by email

If you write to us, we use your message and address only to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). The emails are stored with our mail provider IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. We delete them once the matter is settled, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

5. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, the right to data portability and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to [email protected] for this. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one in your country.

Switzerland. If you live in Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) also applies. It gives you the same rights, in particular of access, rectification and erasure, and you can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
